Electricity, radium and the spitting of the atom
are among the most important modern discoveries.
These discoveries have resulted in such modern
inventions as the electric train, and jet plane,
the spaceship, the radio, television, radar-screen
and nuclear weapons. All these have completely
changed our lives.
The field of medicine, too, has
seen many wonderful discoveries and inventions.
The X-ray, the heart-transplant, the antibiotics,
corneal grafting and so on have been solving many
health problems.
Stainless steel, plastics and
man-made fibres have greatly improved and beautified
our homes. Every branch of science can show discoveries
and inventions of importance to us. But nuclear
weapons are a great daner to man and his civilization.
The world must forget its petty quarrels. It must
become one. We must unite, or we shall perish.
