I spent
an hour in the Central Library yesterday. It is
one of the largest in India. It has a staff of trained
librarians.
I first went into the Lending
Section. It contains about two hundred thousand
books. These books are classified, numbered, indexed,
arranged and issued according to the latest systems.
Then I visited the Reference
Section. I saw many dictionaries, encyclopaedias
and such other reference woks. There were books
as big as small suitcases. I was delighted to
find here special arrangements for students to
read and write.
I climbed up a flight of steps.
I entered the Reading Room. It is a big, bright,
airy hall. In it there are many newspapers and
magazine stands, and chairs and tables. It receives
fifty newspapers and two hundred magazines.
I left the library. I had enjoyed a fine mental
feast. |
